In the recent survey that was sent to members, it was clearly stated that the membership wants its leadership to focus on supporting the city of Fredericksburg in implementing the December 10, 2019 approval of the petition to be a 100% Clean Energy City.  Our January and February meetings made it clear that this is a daunting task (recently magnified by the outbreak of the coronovirus.) Subgroups were formed to work with businesses, to identify best practices in the position description of a sustainability director, and how to start a clean energy plan for the city.

The Clean Energy Planning Committee has, thus far, identified the need for us to:

  • Ask the city council, mayor, and the Clean and Green Committee on what actions Fossil Free Fredericksburg can do to assist in meeting in the Clean and Green Commission’s Priorities for 2020 list.
  • Continue to expand public education through letters to the editor/opinion pieces, workshops/trainings for public and city staff, and using our website.
  • Work with local school boards to help them reduce their carbon footprint.
  • Continue to be a presence at City Council meetings.

We need your help! Anyone interested in joining this committee may contact Julie Kay via or by calling (540) 538-4981.  We have been meeting via conference call the first Friday of every month at 4 p.m. but are open to changing the date/time if the current one doesn’t meet your scheduling.
